Frequently asked questions

Let’s take some of the confusion out of bathroom renovations.

Let’s take some of the confusion out of bathroom renovations.

Will you help me design my bathroom? I’m not creative.

Absolutely. You don’t need to be creative, you simply need to know how you want the space to feel. We guide you through a structured design process suited to you that balances beauty with functionality, ensuring your bathroom is both stunning and practical for years to come.

Can I give you images from magazines?

Please do. Inspiration images help us understand your taste and preferences. We then tailor those ideas to suit your home’s architecture, proportions and lifestyle rather than simply replicating a standard design.

I want a “wow” powder room. Can you do one?

Yes! Powder rooms are the perfect place to create impact. We can design bold, beautifully detailed spaces that impress your guests while ensuring the construction behind the walls is just as considered as the finishes you see.

How best can I share my design ideas with you?
You can share Pinterest boards, saved images, magazine clippings or simply describe how you want the space to function. During your consultation, we ask clear, structured questions to refine your vision and turn ideas into a cohesive plan you’ll love.
My bathroom is too small. Can you make the room bigger?

Yes. As licensed builders, we can assess whether walls can be reconfigured, storage redesigned and layouts improved to generate more physical space, and/or create more of a sense of space from an improved layout. Let’s discuss whats possible for your home.

I’d love a bath with a view. There’s a bath but no view. Can you make that happen?

We love turning dreams into reality. We can explore reorienting the layout, enlarging windows and/or introducing skylights to enhance natural light. As licensed builders, we’ll manage any and all structural and council considerations that may need to be addressed from the get go.

I entertain. I would like to reconfigure the downstairs to have a bathroom guests can use next to the outdoor sitting area. Can you do this?

Yes. We specialise in thoughtful reconfigurations that improve flow and functionality, ensuring guest bathrooms are both beautifully designed and conveniently positioned for all your entertaining needs.

I’m thinking about an outdoor shower to wash away the sand and mud. Maybe even an outdoor bath. Can you help?

Absolutely. We can design and construct outdoor wet areas that are practical, private and architecturally integrated with your home while meeting all drainage and waterproofing requirements.

I have a large area that I’d like to make into a guest suite: bedroom, ensuite & walk in robe. Can you create that for me?

Yes, we can. As licensed builders, we can manage structural changes, wet area construction and layout design to transform under-utilised space into a cohesive and beautifully finished retreat that your guests will love. (Subject to Council or Private Certification).

I have an upstairs bathroom for 2 bedrooms. Can you reconfigure it so it feels more ‘ensuite’?

In many cases, yes. We can redesign layouts, adjust access points and/or improve privacy, so the space feels more like an ensuite whilst still being practical for both bedrooms. We will assess how we can do this when we come and meet your home.

I have 3 bedrooms upstairs and 1 bathroom. I only need 2 bedrooms. Can you give me 2 bedrooms both with ensuites?

Yes. This is precisely the kind of renovation only licensed builders can do. We will assess your homes structure, plumbing positioning and layout, to create 2 balanced and functional bedrooms with ensuites. (Subject to Council or Private Certification).

Will you work with my interior designer?

Absolutely. We’d happily collaborate with your interior designer to ensure your aesthetic vision is executed correctly, whilst maintaining quality construction, building compliance and a beautiful finish.

Will you work with my architect?

Yes. We can work alongside your architect, to ensure you get the result and finish you and the architect are planning for.

You don’t have a showroom. Where do you suggest we go to look at tiles?

If you’re close to Wollongong, we recommend visiting the team at Amber Tiles in Fairy Meadow and/or Brent and his team at Harvey Norman, Warrawong. We’re also happy to suggest additional trusted suppliers depending on the style and finish you’re seeking, and how far you’re prepared to travel.

You don’t have a showroom. Where do you suggest we go to look at baths and taps?
If, like our builder Andrew, you must lie in the bath before buying it, try out the baths on show at Harvey Norman and Highgrove Bathrooms in Warrawong.
You don’t have a showroom. Where do you suggest we go to look at showers?

We love the extensive selection at Harvey Norman, Warrawong. And there is also a great range you can view in the Highgrove Bathrooms showroom just up the road.

How long is a bathroom guaranteed for?

All work is covered by statutory warranties as required by NSW legislation, and we stand behind our workmanship. The current HBCF warranty period is 7 years. Individual fixtures and fittings have differing certificates and warranties. We will handover all warranty documentation on completion.

What if something goes wrong?

We pride ourselves on our communication skills. We are fully licensed and insured, and follow a detailed planning and construction process designed to minimise risk. If issues do arise, contact us. We’ll address issues promptly and professionally

Whats the average cost of a bathroom?
Whilst you may read online that you can get a bathroom from anywhere from $5-$35k, we believe these figures are completely misleading. There is big variation in what “a new bathroom” means. When we quote a “new bathroom”, we mean ripping out whats in the bathroom, replacing fixtures and fittings, and making a bathroom safe and compliant. We know that we can do a basic bathroom with no layout changes and no structural or remedial building work, starting at $35,000. This figure includes GST but not your fittings of choice. We feel sincerely sorry for both the misinformation and building work that is offered at a lower price point. Please know all our work is done to current Australian Building Codes and comes with a 7 year warranty.
Why are bathrooms so expensive?

Did you know that bathrooms require every trade? This is why they cost so much money. Even though the room itself might be small. Demolition Crews, Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Plasterers, Waterproofers, Tilers, Glaziers, and Painters – all of them means bathrooms come at a cost. Especially if you want them to be done legally and well.

Why can’t you do my bathroom in 7 days?

We wish we could! Guidelines for waterproofing alone, recommend 7 days curing. Waterproofing is the single most important factor in bathroom longevity. Therefore, we will NOT rush a bathroom unlike others in the marketplace. We will never relax standards to rush a job. We will always recommend a 6 week window. And when we can deliver well within that time frame, we will.

I have a holiday property in the Illawarra – can you renovate my bathroom when I’m not there?

Absolutely! We plan thoroughly before any work begins. We also inspect your property thoroughly. Occasionally, renovations can reveal issues we hadn’t foreseen. As long as you are available to reply to a call, you can trust us to renovate when you’re not there.

Can you renovate the bathroom but leave the shower working so we can use it?

Unfortunately, no. Nor can we replace “a few tiles”. Bathroom renovations require water to be cut to the whole room. So showers, toilets, baths, basins and taps will be offline until completion.

Can’t you just take out the leaking/broken tiles and replace them in that spot?

Unfortunately, no. Replacing a broken tile means waterproofing is already seriously compromised. Waterproofing is the key to a long lasting bathroom and healthy home.

Why is your quote higher than the plumbers/other guy’s?

We pride ourselves on getting our estimates to be realistic. And where budget is extremely important, we offer a fixed price quote for a fee. Our fixed price quote is the start of us planning your bathroom in detail. The price of the estimate is based on realistic averages of bathrooms we’ve completed. We know that less scrupulous tradespeople deliberately low-ball “quotes” to win work. We will never do this. Bathroom blow outs are never a Happy Bathrooms experience.
